"Abby?" Eury was surprised to see her friend; but, it took her an extra second to recognize the happy teenage girl. Euryale subconsciously adjusted the purple visor over her eyes as she took in Abby's new appearance. Her friend once wore a black visor much like her own; but now, she sat there with a broad grin and perfectly visible pitch-black eyes. She'd never seen the girl's eyes before; she didn't have any when they met.
"You'll never guess what I got for Christmas!" Abby answered. Her grin blossomed into a full-on smile.
"Is it eyes?" Eury gave the apparent answer.
"Nu uh," Abby giggled. "Wanna guess again?" The black-haired teenager leaned closer over the table and opened her eyes wide to give Eury a closer look. She studied the glossy wet, black orbs. They looked like solid black eyes; but, Abby had already rejected that suggestion. With no other ideas coming to mind, Eury gave the only other answer that made sense for her friend.
"Spiders?" she asked. When they met Abby wore a black visor that hid the tarantulas she kept in her eye sockets; it wasn't that much of a leap.
"Yep!" Abby nodded. "Kind of, anyway. Turbo made them for me," she said. As she spoke, her eyeballs seemed to melt out of her sockets into black goo. Eury watched intently and she noticed tiny specs separating from the entire mass as it spread down her face. "They're nano-spiders," she said. After she made her point, the black substance gathered around her eyes to fill the socket again; but, a scream filled the air. Abby made the mistake of turning to see what the issue was, and she gave everyone else a view of her incomplete black eyes. More screams as people jumped out of their seats; then, sudden silence. People were frozen in mid-air and mid-scream as Eury sighed and stood from her seat.
"Sorry, I forgot we were in public," Abby shrugged as her eyeballs finished forming again.
"It's okay, I was about to move on anyway," Eury shrugged and she wiggled her fingers at the air to open a tall black portal. "So, Turbo, huh?" She asked Abby with a smile to encourage more conversation as she walked into the portal.
"Yeah," Abby nodded as she followed. "He's really sweet." The portal closed behind them and the screaming resumed. It lasted for a confusing moment, then faded as no one could identify why anyone was yelling.
