THE MOMENT
"Mistress Celestrix!" Preston jumped to his feet as the elegant woman glided into this office. She was austere, and lean, and wore a black dragon scale gown that seemed to absorb all light around her. She almost projected an aura of darkness as she took a seat in front of his desk. She kept silent while he fumbled himself into business mode. 'I didn't realize you were awake! What can I do for you?" Her golden eyes scanned him up and down as Preston sat back down in his leather chair. She wore an almost bored expression as she considered him.
"Sleep became boring...," she shrugged as her eyes remained focused on him. "...among other distractions that used to amuse me. Tell me, what do you know of Chroma Corp.?" she asked.
"Not much," he started to shake his head. Midway he decided it would appear unprofessional on top of his lack of knowledge and stopped with a sudden, jerky motion. "I mean, it's run by dragons and that's about it; they keep things pretty tight," Celestrix smirked.
"So, the answer is you know nothing," she sounded amused and Preston grew uncomfortable. He had a pretty cushy job working for a dragon that spent most of her time sleeping. But, at the moment, he wasn't sure he liked the direction her visit was taking. "I'm familiar enough with the Chrome Court to guess it was run 'by dragons'," she giggled.
"Of course," Preston nodded.
"Very well," she said suddenly as she rose to her feet. "I've grown bored of this interaction now. But, I think I will remain awake for some time and take in the state of things." She started toward the door, but Preston dashed around his desk to see her out.
"Don't worry about a thing!" he said. "I'll take a more thorough look at Chroma Corp."
"Yes, please," Celestrix nodded. She stopped when she reached the door and turned to meet his eyes. "I woke up in a good mood, I'll give you another chance, Preston," she said. "I wasn't thrilled to wake up and discover my projections had not been met. I gave you a good lead, don't waste it," she said. "Going forward, it's best to be extra careful. You are losing my interest, and that is very dangerous," she whirled forward and walked out the door with one final warning. "Do your job or I'll have to hire a new accountant."
