THE MOMENT
"We were making progress... but we've hit a wall...," Nathaniel did his best to sound positive, but it was difficult. "The good news is that Cthulhu has been contained in a mortal vessel," he was proud of that accomplishment. Humanity had come together to take down an Old God, and he was an important leader on the project. "The bad news is that he's somehow doing more damage as a goose than if he was in his normal form, and we don't know how to stop him," he admitted. He was in a beachside office, talking to a heavyset man named Ozone and Ozone's assistant, a blonde woman named Andie. The space was much calmer and more welcoming than the war zone he'd come from. He wasn't entirely sure where he was, nor how exactly he got there, but the gentle sound of the waves on the shore outside the open windows was heavenly in its own right at that moment.
"You trapped Cthulhu in a goose?" He asked Nathaniel but glanced at Andie, who nodded.
"To say it like that is underselling it." Nathaniel shook his head. "Our plan was to contain him in a mortal vessel first... we didn't expect the goose to be 50 stories tall when we chose that form. Magic is new to our Earth...," he paused as he realized how casually he accepted it. Andie had rescued him during Cthulhu's attack and whisked him away to the current location. It was what he was trying to do: flee. It just didn't happen as he expected. "It's only been around a few years, so even our wisest scholars aren't that learned," he shrugged. "We thought magic would give us a fighting chance... but we don't know how to proceed now that we've gotten him in this state. I was casting anything that might help, even as Goosthulhu was attacking. The best I could do was summon Andie...," he smiled at the blonde. "Thankfully, she rescued me here to safety, but she also said you'd be able to help?" he asked.
"Can we?" Ozone asked Andie directly. The interaction confused Nathaniel; he was under the impression Ozone was Andie's boss. It must've shown on his face because Ozone smiled even before Andie answered.
"When it comes to magic, Andie knows what she's talking about." And she nodded.
"I believe the students could handle it, but it would require a coordinated effort," she said. "A Magical Girl to do the purification, and at least a squad of Mechs to keep the 50-story goose occupied."
"Put Brooke on it," Ozone nodded. "And come up with a way to decide the team supporting her."
"I'll take care of it, Mr. Ozone," Andie smiled, then looked at Nathaniel. "It'll take some time to prepare, we won't be doing anything today. Would you like a room to rest?" She opened a tall black portal like the one she'd brought them there through, and gestured at it.
"Yes, please." Nathaniel nodded as he walked through the portal without hesitation. But Ozone chuckled as he heard one last comment from the bewildered guest on his way out. "I could use a nap; being terrified beyond comprehension takes a lot out of a guy."
