THE MOMENT

"Lightning Strike...," Mr. Majesty descended with his arms crossed and a look of heroic disdain locked on the wiry villain in blue spandex. "... I can't say I'm shocked at all by your latest scheme." It was golden hour, though the light was fading fast, and some sort of broadcast antenna was affixed to a pillar of machinery next to the genius inventor. It flickered with arcs of blue energy lashing out at anything nearby, especially Lightning Strike. The electricity kept him charged, and fortunately, he functioned as a lightning rod. A circle of innocent civilians gathered around the Villain as he set up his equipment; they all knew something was happening, and that none of them were qualified to intervene. But they waited, and cheered when Mr. Majesty arrived.

"Oh, you will be," Lightning Strike grinned. "You took too long to get here, Hero," the lean, masked man flexed his fists, and electricity visibly coursed through his body. "I'm all charged up."

"Then, you don't need...," Mr. Majesty bolted forward at super speed. He grabbed the electronic doohicky and flung it wildly up beyond the atmosphere. "...this anymore. Do you?"

"Wait..," Lightning Strike's very apparent lightning suddenly fizzled out with an audible sputter. "NOOO!" he yelled.

In a world with an abundance of heroes and villains, they were just part of normal life. For better or worse, they were 'normal' people too, capable of the same common stupidity everyone had. Everyone there, except Mr. Majesty, laughed at how quickly the tables turned on the villain, then dispersed to go about their own business. Lightning Strike was as good as foiled.

"Wait... what?" Mr. Majesty was puzzled by the sudden victory, he hadn't expected to win quite that fast.

"You won," Lightning Strike nodded. "It's over. Now, fly your butt home because if you're not there on time, Majesty will bury both of us." Mr. Majesty's eyes widened with the realization that he almost forgot something important. It would've been the first time in their short marriage that he forgot, but that would've only made it worse. However, it wasn't entirely his fault. They had a young daughter who had been taking a lot more energy and attention from both of them lately.

"Thanks, L.S.," Mr. Majesty nodded. "I've got just enough time to pick out something nice on the way," he lifted off the ground, about to fly off at top speed, before Lightning Strike called his attention with a gentle arc. Then, he pulled out a tiny platinum box just big enough to hold a ring.

"When Majesty asked me about tonight, I realized how distracted you've been, because you hadn't mentioned it at all," he said. "I had Orion get something nice for her," he offered Mr. Majesty the box.

"You're a lifesaver, L.S.," Mr. Majesty gladly accepted the box with a smile and flew off home.

An hour later, he was in his bedroom, almost ready, when there was a knock at the door.

"Ellis!" Majesty smiled down at the lean, aged man with silver hair. He had a young blonde girl next to him. "Glad you two could make it," she smiled down at the girl. "Electra, dear, would you go find Royalty, please? She's hiding from me."

"K!" The five-year-old girl dashed into the house she'd spent many hours in already and ran straight for her best friend's bedroom.

"Thanks for making sure John got home on time," she nodded at Ellis.

"And let that be the only point this evening when you worry about time," he nodded at her. "You two go out and have a great night. The girls and I will be fine."
