THE MOMENT
"So, it was surprising to you?" Harper was reaching the end of the interview and she'd gleaned quite a few insights from Pauline's answers. Solarion Inc. was testing new procedures and this current one felt like a winner. They sat in Harper's spacious beach-side office. The windows were open and they could hear the waves outside.
"It was," Pauline nodded. "When you told me how powerful it would be, I automatically assumed it would be bestial or maybe eldritch. I never expected it to act so human."
"And what did you think of the fight mechanics?" Harper asked.
"That still needs some work," Pauline shook her head. "It was another surprise turn. Which, isn't a bad thing. I can see what you were trying to do, but it happens kind of suddenly. There we were having a good time, it never even occurred to us that one of our team would grow that close to him and turn against friends so suddenly; that move could probably be telegraphed better."
"Okay," Harper nodded. "What about the last phase?" she asked.
"Another positive surprise." Pauline said. "But that one was easier to read than the charm where he makes someone his best friend. But. not one of us ever thought he'd try to destroy his own morality. The hints were obvious, so we stopped him and completed the encounter. But, what happens if he does?"
"Secret phase," Harper grinned. "I really appreciate your guild's testing efforts. We'll make some changes then ask you to try again. And next time, I recommend letting him destroy his own morality. I think you'll discover another long list of things you didn't expect."
